In recent years, we have been called upon by FWC to assist in several manatee rescues where manatees were either injured or 'out of habitat' and needed to be relocated.

August 14-17, 2007 - MARS volunteers participated in manatee research captures led by the USGS. This project is part of a larger effort to understand manatee use in the greater Everglades and implications with regional restoration efforts.

August 8, 2007 - A female manatee in Key Largo was entangled in monofilament. This animal was previously rescued in 2001 for entanglement.

July 24, 2006 - Bonnie in Key Largo. Bonnie is a "serial entangler" and has been rescued several times. We removed the monofilament that was around both pectoral fins, gave her some antibiotics and released her.

May 18, 2006 - this animal was in the Coral Gables canal and it's tail had total necrosis from a boat hit. It was taken to Seaworld for rehab but did not survive.

March 13, 2006 -  This animal appeared to have been hit by a boat, you can see parallel cuts on the animal's side.

February 24, 2006 - This animal was found at the Calusa Campground and had a huge gash across its back and side.
