August 31, 2005 - This beaked whale had beached on Miami Beach and was pushed back out several times by concerned citizens but kept re-stranding before we were made aware and were able to reach the animal. Beaked whales usually strand already dead in South Florida so it was unusual to find this one still alive. It unfortuantely did not survive long after we arrived.

Three of Seven Dwarfs Released
Mote Marine Lab, March 3, 2005: Three Stenos (Rough Toothed Dolphins) remain of the original “Seven Dwarfs” taken into the Dolphin and Whale Hospital from the stranding event of August 6, 2004 in which some 37 animals beached themselves. MARS volunteers were there to assist at the stranding and inital rehabilitation site. Unfortunately, thirty were euthanized at the site.
Following the mid-October deaths of tank-mates “Doc”, a juvenile male, and “Dopey”, an adult male, it was determined that the animals were suffering from a fungal infection that was affecting their lungs. A new antifungal was administered to which the remaining animals, “Bashful” (adult female), “Sleepy” and “Sneezy” (adult males) seem to be responding.
These three animals were released on March 3, 2005 off Fort Pierce, Fl.
